Behind the Scenes of Belinda Carlisle’s EP Kismet: A Collaboration of Legends
It all started with a single phone call. Mathia Gavriel, a seasoned producer and composer, was approached to work on one song for Belinda Carlisle’s EP *Kismet*, a project brought to life through a collaboration with legendary songwriter Diane Warren. What began as a one-song commitment quickly turned into an unexpected journey of creative synergy, resulting in the production of an entire five-song record.
After that initial recording session, the energy and chemistry between Mathia, Belinda, and Diane were undeniable. One song led to another, and soon, they were working on a total of five tracks together. The creative process flowed effortlessly, with all three artists bringing their unique talents to the table.
In the midst of this incredible collaboration, Mathia traveled to Mexico City to continue recording three of the songs with Belinda. The city’s vibrant energy infused the sessions, adding a special dynamic to the music they were creating.
Mathia’s role extended beyond production—he also recorded and mixed the entire record, crafting the sonic landscape that would bring Diane’s songwriting and Belinda’s iconic vocals to life. The EP, released under BMG in partnership with Diane Warren’s company, showcases the perfect blend of timeless artistry and modern production.
Co-producer Peter Stengaard joined the project for two tracks, adding yet another layer of creative depth to the EP. The result is a record that not only honors Belinda Carlisle’s legacy but also pushes her sound into new territory.
*Kismet* stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between artists at the top of their game. For Mathia Gavriel, working with such legendary figures in the industry was a career-defining experience, one fueled by mutual respect, creative freedom, and a shared passion for making extraordinary music.
